Summary: Yusuke removes spiritual shackles Genkai gave him, unleashing more of his power. Overwhelmed, Toguro starts to power up to 100%. At 100% power, Toguro hurts Yusuke with finger-flicks and deflects the Spirit Gun with a yell. He asks if Yusuke still thinks he will survive.

Anime/manga differences after the jump.

Differences from the Manga
(What's all this about?  Read here)
  • The episode starts with a retread of episode 61’s ending scene.  Toguro overwhelms Yusuke merely by emitting ki, and says 80% of his power is plenty to handle Yusuke.
  • There’s a lot of standard peanut gallery filler in response to Toguro being unharmed by Yusuke’s Spirit Gun.  Jorge suggests that Yusuke might have some even greater attack up his sleeve, but doesn’t really believe it.  In the manga we only see Kuwabara and Chu’s comments.  There’s a lot more peanut gallery filler throughout the episode, but nothing too notable.
  • During Yusuke’s flashback to when Genkai gave him his spiritual shackle things, the anime shows it as raining, while the manga doesn’t.  Since it really was raining when Yusuke began his final trial in both the manga and anime, this is basically the anime fixing a mistake in the manga.  As Genkai explains about the training shackles, in the anime she notes how she’s told Yusuke many times that he must unify his physical and spiritual power, which is indeed something she’s said before in both versions.
  • Once Yusuke takes off his training shackles and unleashes his power, the anime depicts this process as a giant bird of energy being released from Yusuke’s body.  It flies around the stadium before landing on Yusuke and being absorbed back into him.  Interestingly, this energy bird bears something of a resemblance to Puu’s full grown form, which we see towards the end of the Sensui arc.  The grown-up Puu first appeared in the manga in chapter 148, published around December 20th, 1993.  Episode 62 of the anime here first aired on January 8th, 1994.  So it seems possible that this was an intentional foreshadowing of later events.
  • After Toguro gets punched by Yusuke a trillion times, he gets back up but now his muscle mass has returned to normal.  In the manga random crowd members say that he looks like a deflated balloon, and wonder if Yusuke’s attack has left him out of power.  In the anime Jin and Toya are given these lines.  Likewise, later in the episode as 100% Toguro is knocking Yusuke around with mere finger-flicks, in the manga some random crowd demon comments on Yusuke being suddenly knocked back for no reason, while in the anime Jin and Chu note this.  The same thing happens again when Toguro blocks Yusuke’s Spirit Gun simply by yelling.
  • The bulk of Toguro’s transformation into his 100% form is dialogue-free in the manga, while in the anime Koto keeps up her ringside commentary.  She has to wear shades to block out the brilliant light emitting from Toguro.  We also see Jin and co. dodge the harmful waves of energy Toguro is shooting off, and Yukina tells the other girls not to move.
  • Chapter 106 begins with a wonderfully detailed picture of Toguro in the early phase of his transformation, with his whole body covered in intricate veins.  It’s the kind of heavy detail that doesn’t animate well, and the anime version looks bland in comparison.  On the other hand there’s a lot more detailed images of Toguro’s transforming body in the anime.  The manga shows him start the process, and a little bit of the middle, but holds off a detailed view of Toguro’s final form until a big page-filling image.
  • In the manga Sakyo is intrigued to see Toguro’s 100% form for the first time, but maintains his usual calm disinterest.  In the anime he seems as frightened of Toguro as everybody else.
  • In the manga Toguro punches Yusuke clear to the other side of the stadium and then asks him if he still thinks he’ll survive this.  How he expects Yusuke to hear this, I don’t know.  Maybe he’s just talking to himself more than anything.  At any rate, the anime somewhat more sensibly has him ask Yusuke this when he’s holding Yusuke up, right before punching him across the stadium.
  • Chapter 106 ends with Sakyo saying it looks like he’s won the bet, and Koenma thinking to himself that Toguro is simply too strong.  For some reason the anime moves these lines all the way to the middle of next episode.
