Anime/manga differences after the jump.
Differences from the Manga
(What's all this about? Read here)
- The episode starts with the crowd yelling for Chu to kill Yusuke, and various people’s reactions. We get a recap of the end of the last chapter, with Chu starting to show off his unusual movements.
- After Chu hits Yusuke five times, so fast that it looks like only once, in the anime Yusuke is briefly knocked down. Koto takes this opportunity to replay Chu’s attack, so everyone can see that Chu really hit him 5 times.
- Likewise, when Chu kicks Yusuke into the audience, there’s lot of filler before Yusuke returns to the ring. Gonda brags to Sakyo about the strength of his Roku-Yukai Team, which seems odd because at this point only two of them are still alive. Chu collapses in a drunken stupor for a bit. Koto re-explains Chu’s Drunken Fist technique. Etc.
- Chu’s Oni-Goroshi sake is described as a “heavy alcohol of the Demon World” in the manga, while in the anime it’s upgraded to being the “strongest alcohol in the Demon World”. Despite that, the flask Chu drinks of it is considerably larger in the anime.
- As Chu powers up into his super-drunk spectral alchemist form thingamabob, there’s a flashback showing how Rinku met Chu (ostensibly this is supposed to be Rinku explaining to Yusuke about how strong Chu is). Rinku was (apparently) in the Demon World getting picked on by some bigger demons, when Chu shows up and kills all the bullies.
- During Chu and Yusuke’s big energy blast showdown, they both evade each other’s blasts and briefly disappear. In the manga they turn up by Koto’s side in the arena, while in the anime they jump into the air and come down to the ground from there.
- The episode adapts all but the last panel of chapter 59. It ends with Chu saying he and Yusuke still need to settle their match, but doesn’t show him pull out the two knives and say they’ll do a Knife Edge Death Match.
