Anime/manga differences after the jump.
Differences from the Manga
(What's all this about? Read here)
- The episode starts with a retread of last 39’s ending scene, as Jin flies down and punches Yusuke.
- Lot more peanut gallery filler in this. My favorite: Kuwabara saying Yusuke is perverted for liking fights more the stronger his opponent is.
- When Yusuke gets blown away by Jin’s wind punch attack, he wonders what would have happened to him if he had taken it head-on. Jin then uses the attack to make a huge hole in the wall surrounding the audience seats. In the manga Yusuke says a bad pun: “Aa-naru wake ne”, roughly meaning “I would have ended up like that” (aa=”like that”, naru=”become”) but sounding like ana, “hole”. Yusuke comments that this isn’t a very funny joke. This bit gets left out in the anime.
- Once Jin flies up into the air again to escape Yusuke, Koto explains that floating up there doesn’t count as ring-out, because the tournament rules say it’s only ring-out if part of your body touches something outside of the ring. In the manga she says this on her own, while in the anime Botan asks her about it.
- In the manga Hiei thinks to himself that the one way for Yusuke to hit Jin with his Spirit Gun is to fire it directly at Jin the moment Jin punches. In the anime this is turned into a dialogue between Hiei and Mask, who both know what Yusuke has to do.
- The episode ends 11 pages into chapter 72, as Yusuke prepares to use his Reiko-Dan attack against Jin.
